A home for military families
Consistency and care, when it matters most.
At Sherborne Girls we recognise the particular circumstances many military families navigate, and how important it is to find the right school. Stability, continuity, and trust matter deeply when family life can include postings, periods of separation, and unexpected change. Supporting Service families is about far more than pastoral care alone. It is about creating a calm, reassuring environment where girls feel secure, valued, and truly at home.
As a full boarding school, Sherborne Girls provides a welcoming and supportive community where girls can flourish. Our houses remain open and lively at weekends, offering structure, friendship, and a varied programme of activities and social opportunities. For girls whose parents may be serving in the United Kingdom or overseas, this sense of rhythm and routine brings comfort, alongside the confidence that guidance and support are always available.
Sherborne Girls is not simply a place to study. It is a community that stands alongside military families with understanding, care, and continuity.
The total amount payable for CEA funded pupils will be the CEA allowance plus 10% of the prevailing (full) boarding fee (inclusive of VAT). All the Schools within Sherborne Schools Group offer a 10% discount off day and boarding fees for those families currently working in the armed forces, who do not qualify for the CEA allowance.
Please contact the Admissions team on 01935 818224 or email admissions@sherbornegirls.group to discuss any aspect of the admissions process.

Tatty H, fifth form pupil
Boarding that feels like home...
For girls whose families move frequently, a school that provides continuity and a genuine sense of belonging is invaluable.
Tatty H, a Fifth Form pupil at Sherborne Girls, describes what that had meant for her, and the role the School has played.
Supporting girls to thrive
At Sherborne Girls, support for military families is strengthened by the experience of Mrs Jayne Dart, Deputy Head, Co-Curricular and Operations. Jayne joined the School in 2010 after an early career in the military, training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Junior Division Staff College. Her background gives her a strong understanding of the realities of service life and the resilience many military children develop.
With more than 13 years on the Senior Leadership Team, and previous roles including Director of Sport, Adventure and Leadership and Assistant Housemistress in Wingfield Digby, Jayne plays an important role in shaping the Co-Curricular life of the School and ensuring girls feel supported and confident.
Having lived and worked in several countries, and with children who attended international schools before finishing at boarding schools in the United Kingdom, Jayne understands the experience of globally mobile families. A qualified expedition leader and endurance running coach, she encourages girls to embrace challenge, build confidence, and thrive during their time at Sherborne Girls.
Boarding Schools' Association ASPIRE programme
|
Sherborne Girls and Sherborne Boys are delighted to be Ambassador schools for BSA's excellent ASPIRE programme and support ex-service personnel who are interested in finding fulfilling new careers, perhaps in our inspiring full boarding communities. Sherborne Schools Group has a number of teachers and members of staff who had successful careers in the military before joining us; we recognise how valuable their prior experience is in a school environment and have seen what a positive impact they have in the classroom, and beyond, often taking on leading roles in our impressive Co-Curricular programme of activities and Boarding Houses. |
