Cambridge Success

Four Upper Sixth pupils at Sherborne Girls have received offers to study at the University of Cambridge. The news reflects sustained academic focus and a committed approach to learning over the course of their Sixth Form years.

Matilda B, who has an offer to study Modern and Medieval Languages, spoke about the support she received during the application process:

"I am delighted to have received an offer to study Modern Languages at the University of Cambridge. During the application process, I was incredibly thankful for all the encouragement and support I received from my teachers. I hope that studying languages will allow me to engage with the world around me, open doors internationally, and hopefully lead to an eventual career in politics or international relations."

The subjects the pupils will study reflect the breadth of the curriculum at Sherborne Girls. Imi has an offer to read History and French at Homerton College. Matilda will study Modern and Medieval Languages at Churchill College. Sophie has secured a place to study Music at Trinity Hall. Rosanna will read Land Economy at Jesus College.

David Banks, Director of Sixth Form, said:

“We are absolutely delighted that four of our pupils have received Oxbridge offers this year. These outcomes reflect not only exceptional academic ability, but also intellectual curiosity, resilience and a genuine love of learning. We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who engaged so thoughtfully with the Oxbridge process, and grateful to the staff who supported them with such care and expertise.”

Pupils applying to Oxford, Cambridge and other leading universities are supported through a structured programme in the Sixth Form. From the middle of the Lower Sixth, pupils receive one-to-one mentoring with subject specialists. They also take part in Sixth Form Thinkers, a weekly programme run in collaboration with Sherborne Boys and The Gryphon.

In addition, pupils attend the half-termly Turing Society, which provides opportunities to explore subjects beyond the curriculum. Recent sessions have included talks on leadership and linguistics, a Mastermind-style challenge and a debate on fake news.

We congratulate all four pupils on their offers and wish them well as they continue their studies.
