Chemistry Olympiad Success at Sherborne Girls
The UK Chemistry Olympiad is an annual national competition that challenges Sixth Form students to deepen their understanding of chemistry and develop their academic potential. Through a series of demanding and thought-provoking problems, participants are encouraged to apply their knowledge in unfamiliar contexts, strengthening their problem-solving skills and scientific thinking.
Designed to inspire and stretch pupils beyond the classroom, the Olympiad provides a valuable opportunity for aspiring chemists to explore the subject at a more advanced level. It is open to students in their Upper Sixth year, before they embark upon higher education, across schools and colleges in the British Isles and is widely recognised for the rigour of its questions.
This year, thousands of students from hundreds of schools took part, with only a small percentage achieving the highly regarded Gold Award (Top 8.5%). We are especially proud that four of our Lower Sixth pupils chose to participate one year early, under the expert tutoring of Miss Hou who is herself a Cambridge Graduate and also completed the Chemistry Olympiad when she was also at school. All four Sherborne Girls pupils performed exceptionally well in such a competitive field.
